Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

This policy is published by Jury Research Associates of California, formed in California and doing business as Jury Research Associates (“JRA”, “we”, “us”). We run focus groups and related research that help attorneys prepare real cases, and we maintain a panel of people who want to participate in that research. Where this policy says “we” or “us”, it means that company.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including:

  • Panel signup: your name, city, date of birth, email address, general availability, education, occupation, the occupations of adults in your household, prior jury service, and relevant work experience.
  • Focus group sign-up surveys: answers to screening questions for a specific focus group, which can include your experiences, opinions, and attitudes related to the subject matter of a case.
  • Identity verification: when you sign up for a specific focus group, a photo ID and a document showing your name and address (such as a utility bill or bank statement), used to confirm eligibility.
  • Contact form submissions: your name, email, phone number, topic, and message.
  • Payment details: if you are selected and participate, the information needed to pay you (such as a Venmo or PayPal handle, or a mailing address for a check).

Our website uses only essential technical data needed to serve pages securely. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Match you with focus groups that fit your background and invite you to them.
  • Determine eligibility and verify identity for a specific focus group.
  • Conduct research sessions and analyze their results.
  • Pay you for completed participation.
  • Respond to your questions and requests.
  • Operate and improve our website and services.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Confidentiality of Research Responses

Your survey and session responses are used solely for research purposes. Research findings are shared with the legal team that commissioned the focus group as part of their case preparation. We do not publish your identity, and we require the professionals we work with to treat participant information confidentially.

5. Communications

Panel membership is invitation-based: by joining our panel you agree to receive emails about focus groups that may match your background, and transactional messages about focus groups you sign up for. You can leave the panel and stop receiving invitations at any time by contacting us at info@juryresearchca.com. We do not send unrelated marketing email.

6. Data Sharing

We share data only with:

  • Research clients: the attorneys and legal teams that commission a focus group receive research findings as described in Section 4.
  • Service providers: the vendors that host our website and process payments, bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal requirements: when required by law, regulation, or legal process.

7. Identity Documents

Identity-verification documents are used only to confirm your eligibility for the specific focus group you sign up for. They are stored securely with restricted access, are never made public, and are deleted once they are no longer needed for verification and our record-keeping obligations.

8. Data Retention

We keep your panel information for as long as you are a panel member. If you leave the panel, or ask us to delete your information, we will delete it except where we need to retain records of completed participation and payment. You can request deletion at any time by contacting info@juryresearchca.com.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Delete your personal information.
  • Object to a use of your information, or withdraw consent you have given.

For California residents (CCPA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

10. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit (TLS), restricted access to sensitive data, and separation of identity documents from public systems. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

11. Age Requirement

Our panel and focus groups are open only to adults 18 years or older, and our services are not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email to panel members. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
